In April 2004 Walla Walla citizens from all walks of life gathered at more than 40 different listening sessions to share their thoughts, concerns and ideas on living and working in Walla Walla.

More than 400 session attendees answered three standard questions:

  • What are the major problems and challenges in your community?
  • What are the major strengths and assets of your community?
  • What projects would you like to see accomplished in your community in the next 2, 5, 10 and 20 years?

Based on this input a team of volunteers sponsored by the Washington Rural Development Council, with varied professional expertise, made recommendations on moving forward in a report to the community.

A town hall meeting was held in November 2004 to discuss the report and begin to prioritize action areas. Four general areas of interest were identified:

  • Cultural Separation
  • Communication
  • Economic Development
  • Youth Activities

The report was widely distributed for use in planning for the future of our community.
