Food for Thought

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. "

- Edmund Burke (1729-1797)

Community fund dollars are allocated in a careful process facilitated by a local Allocations Committee.  Each year the all-volunteer committee, made up of a diverse group of community members, meet numerous times to analyze agency funding requests and community needs. They measure program effectiveness and the financial soundness of each United Way agency.  Their work ensures the community’s United Way contributions are well spent in the areas of greatest need.

Jeff Broom, 2008 Allocations committee chair:  "Our committee works on behalf of donors to ensure that partner agencies are meeting real community needs effectively and efficiently.  We are entrusted with making sure that donations are being put to good use.  It is a difficult and time consuming job, but it is rewarding to learn more about these outstanding organizations and the work being done to help those in need in Walla Walla County.”
